There are notable gaps in Ghana’s education system. However, the founders of QKnow Ghana have observed an even greater challenge which is the inadequacy of valuable educational materials that broadens students’ horizons and effectively tracks their performance while in school.
In this regard, QKnow, an EdTech company aims to improve the delivery of quality education for all stakeholders in the educational sector. The organisation is building a software that provides quality educational contents in the form of notes, articles, quizzes, videos, and learning boxes whilst tracking their educational performances over a period of time.
QKnow products are embedded with the core innovation attributes that ensures clear communication of the improvement of students. The products are designed to be compatible with every students’ mode of learning.
Currently, QKnow is being used by 400+ students across several schools in the Greater Accra Region. By 2023, QKnow intends to expand into the Western Region, Central Region, Volta Region and the Ashanti Region. With the aim of hitting an annual revenue of GHS 1,000,000+ in the next 3 years.

Many Ghanaian children lack a good foundation that teaches them how to read properly and thus, are struggling with understanding their school work and are avoiding reading for pleasure.
The Booksie is an online and offline literacy centre that supplements reading that is taught in school. The Booksie facilitates the development of participatory reading curricula, provides reading lessons, reading camps, storytime sessions and book clubs for 3 - 12 year olds.
In addition, they run a virtual bookshop that sells African children's books. Through this intervention, they encourage culturally relevant and relatable books easily accessible to young Africans. Ever since the launch of Booksie, 3 and half years ago, they have served 900+ families who are listed in their customer relationship management tracker.
It is noteworthy that half of these families have used the literacy centre - reading lessons, virtual and in person storytime events and reading camps. The other half have equally used the centre or just bought books through the bookshop. The Booksie have sold close to 10,000 books and are poised to accelerate progress to Target 4.2 of the UN Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education).

Children in Koforidua, the Eastern Region of Ghana lack access to bilingual Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Maths (STEAM) education.
Generally, in Ghana, education is not practical enough; thus, learning is done mostly through memorisation and it doesn't advance the development of relevant skills for future jobs and careers.
In this regard, River of Blessing Foundation Academy provides bilingual (English & French) language training as well as STEAM training for its teachers and pupils in pre-school and primary.
The school produces video contents of its bilingual training and STEAM lessons, as well as videos of students' STEAM related work on social media. This forms part of the Academy’s commitment to show parents, schools and pupils how they can integrate STEAM education with their regular subjects in school.
River of Blessing Foundation Academy is currently the only institution offering bilingual STEAM education in the Eastern Region of Ghana. The school has a student population of 200 pupils and intends to grow to 10,000+ by 2030, particularly to accelerate progress to the SDG 4 (Quality Education).

Perbi Cubs observed that children perform poorly in school due to their inability to read. The organization believes that their failure to read, denies them the opportunity to make meaning of their world, and this negatively affects their future.
Based on this observation, Perbi Cubs is building a transformational learning community for improved literary experience among children. Through this, they will provide evidence-based and cost-effective reading programmes that produce proficient readers, using a combination of in-school programmes and a digital platform with thousands of books accessible to children between age 7 and 12.
Though Perbi Cubs’ ideal model of engaging schools is to adopt their programme by incorporating it into their timetable, the organization equally intends to complement this efforts through their digital platform.
The Perbi Cubs digital platform was developed in response to COVID-19 and school closures. They believe this will offer facilitators more autonomy to provide group and one-on-one support to the children. Perbi Cubs currently has over 6000 children from over 240 schools using their digital platform. The organization intends to scale to serve 10,000+ children by the end of 2022 and 30,000 in 2023.

Speech Forces through stakeholder engagements and embarking on assessments, observed that in Ghana many educators lack critical thinking and the competence to teach and integrate this essential skill in students for their holistic development.
Since 2014, Speech Forces has been running tailored student programs to improve critical thinking and build confidence among students. This includes their parents favorite and most impactful program called the DebateKids.
The DebateKids is a writing, speaking and critical thinking program designed to train children from 5 to 12 years old to be critical, confident, analytical, and expressive with the goal to make them fully functional as global citizens.
In addition, children within the said age group, through the DebateKids, learn and participate in basic research, persuasive writing, argumentative discourse, confidence building as well as speaking and listening skills in a safe and structured environment.
Operating in high schools and universities across the country, the DebateKids has consistently engaged 500+ participants and intends to scale to 8000+ beneficiaries in the next 5 years through schools, community centers and virtual debate platforms for kids.

Children in deprived communities in Keta and Dambai, the Volta Region and Oti Region of Ghana, respectively, do not have access to supplemental learning for a holistic child development.
CDF is embarking on a Supplementary Leading Project to enhance the reading skills of learners using modern pedagogy with STEM and Life Skills integration to boost the holistic educational development of children in the deprived communities they operate in.
In addition, the project seeks to sensitize parents to be aware of the learning needs of children as well. CDF launched the Supplemental Learning project in the wake of COVID-19, running a pilot program which supported 200+ learners under 37 schools within Keta/Anloga District, Volta region of Ghana.
Through the success of the pilot program, CDF secured a partnership with Right To Play under its Gender Responsive Education and Transformation (GREAT) Project to extend the program to more children in the district.
For the past 3 years, the partnership has so far helped CDF to reach 2,079+ children. The incorporation of STEM and playful activities with Life Skills in the program served as a great solution to address the difficulty in reading, writing and numeracy among children in these deprived communities.

Young at Heart Ghana observed that children have restricted access to effective teaching and learning experiences beyond engagements during school hours.
Through this observation, the organization built the Ananse Hub. The Hub is a virtual learning platform that connects teachers, students (between ages 8 to 12) and parents to context inspired, practical and experiential learning engagements beyond the classroom.
The virtual platform deployed via mobile phones, tablets and computers creates a learning community with access to several resources. This includes a custom built gamified app called Ananse The Teacher. This app uses African folklore stories as a medium to guide account holders (i.e., teachers, learners and parents) to engage through practical STEAM lessons and games.
The modules have been used by over 10,000 students so far. Through the Ananse Hub, Young at Heart intends to reach 500,000 core users out of the pool of 4,393,000 students in primary schools in Ghana over the next 5 years.
The organization believes this will be achieved by ‘scaling up’ to engage key educational institution stakeholders and partners.

Primary school girls in many deprived communities in Ghana lack the reading material they need to develop literacy skills especially in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM) education.
To address this problem, GEIG has identified e-readers as a solution to unequal access to reading materials. E-readers provide near instantaneous access to reading material. However, these devices are unattainable for girls from low-income families. To address this, GEIG has committed itself to reducing the unequal access to reading material and improving literacy among girls who are already in school.
GEIG’s credo is to scale its provision of e-readers and learning support to three additional regions in Ghana by 2025. The organisation also aims to use school literacy clubs to improve digital literacy, reading proficiency and motivation among 100+ children aged 8 to 12 every year.

Children from low-income households in Ghana who attend low-fee private schools have very little to no access to a thriving and enabling school environment because their schools lack robust systems in school management and administration.
Think Education has designed a holistic school improvement and advisory program that supports weak low-cost private schools to develop robust and context-based administrative and management systems that improve their schools’ resilience and ability to provide quality education.
The outputs of the non-profits solution span the development of school improvement plans, capacity-building programs, communities of practice and customised policies and action plans based on data. After the project’s launch in 2019, it has been tested in 4 schools in Tamale, the Northern Region of Ghana as part of a larger project to support 10 schools in the Sagnerigu district of Ghana.
In addition, the nonprofit has offered standalone solutions such as a school reopening planning guide and checklist which supported over 50 schools’ to plan for reopening in areas such as business and financial management, parent and staff engagement, teaching and learning.
This resource has so far impacted 5500+ school children, enabling schools in the Sagnerigu and Tamale Metro districts in the Northern region of Ghana, slowly return to operations in spite of the impacts of the pandemic.

Existing literature highlights that STEM education in Africa is skewed towards men and the privileged few in societies. In Ghana, children in underserved communities hardly get adequate STEM education to pursue careers that are essential in this era.
Based on this awareness, STEMBees is geared towards encouraging and mentoring more young African women to pursue careers in STEM. The organization rolls out their interventions through the help of the teachers who serve as their focal points or trainers in the STEM clubs they establish across second-cycle institutions.
The overarching goal of STEMBees is to improve the statistics of women pursuing STEM-related courses and working in STEM fields. And this requires generating greater interest and excitement about the many opportunities in STEM among children between 7 and 12 years.
Through workshops and an annual camp meeting, STEMBees has engaged 3000+ children and young people including males since 2014. They have also implemented after-school programs for girls from 2016 to early 2018 in 2 Public Junior High schools and 1 community library in Accra - with 120 participants.
The organization’s target for 2022 and 2023 is to reach 3 different basic schools in the Ansafona District in the Central Region of Ghana with practical STEM learning opportunities, after which, a STEM Club which is already established will be scaled with the essential tools and resources for equitable and accessible STEM education
